Overview
This educational symposium will update the medical community on the state-of-the-art care of gastric and soft tissue neoplasms, while focusing on the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and treatment of these rare and complicated disease entities, including gastric adenocarcinoma and desmoid tumors. National and international renowned guest speakers and distinguished faculty including those from MedStar Health and MedStar Georgetown Cancer Institute will discuss the significant roles of evolving new diagnostic modalities, immune therapies, the use of organ-sparing surgery, the use of state-of-the art radiotherapy in gastric cancer and desmoid tumors. Objectives
Physician assistant:
1. Identify and treat the new molecular side effects for initial treatment of desmoid tumors
2. Recognize the protocol for post treatment surveillance of patients with gastric neoplasms and desmoid
3. Recognize the various modalities that should be considered in the diagnostic evaluation and staging of patients with gastric cancer
4. Differentiate the benefits and risks of preoperative versus postoperative radiotherapy
5. Comprehend the impact on a patient’s quality of life following total gastrectomy
6. Identify the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in the management of patients with gastric cancer
Physician:
Discuss imaging techniques for gastric neoplasms
Discuss the diagnostic and therapeutic role of endoscopy in early gastric cancer
Recognize the importance of molecular markers in the diagnosis and treatment of gastric neoplasms and desmoid tumors
Identify novel targeted and immune therapies for advanced gastric cancer
Recognize the role and indications for radiation therapy in the treatment of gastric cancer and desmoid tumors
Discuss the various treatment options including Watch and Wait as initial treatment or radiotherapy for desmoid tumors
